The long road to you...
One of my most defining qualities is my tenacity, but next up to bat is my curiosity. I love to try and learn about new things. My friends may not have appreciated when I learned how to peel a Thai water beetle in order to eat it, but they think it’s pretty legit that I’ve taken SCAA-level coffee classes and thus can brew them something amazing when they come over. You win some, you lose some.
As an overachiever and perfectionist, I have dealt with more than my fair share of stress. I left the challenge of being a high-school English teacher to dive headfirst into the pressure-cooker of parenting. I managed this anxiety by falling in love with fitness. Running, cycling, cross fit, Pilates, tabata, circuit training, hiking… you name it, I’ve probably tried it; unless it’s swimming (I’m a cat: Just let me drown). Fitness kept me able to do the big things in my life (get degrees, stay married, raise littles) and keep my sanity. Until it couldn’t.
In 2016, life got real. My pain from running became too intense; after running the gamut of therapies, I had surgery on both hips. Then a hysterectomy. Then sinus surgery. I hit rock bottom. After going so long without being able to get back in a workout rhythm, I was de-conditioned, often in pain, and depressed.
I was referred to Pilates as a form of rehabilitation, but I ended up falling in love. I stopped chronic gym-hopping and set up shop.
Pilates changed my mental health as well as the physical. The amount of focus and control it took to execute a move challenged me. The fact that a person’s body approaches it differently every day kept me engaged. When something works, I’m the first to pick up the megaphone and tell the world about it, so two years in, I decided to become a teacher.
The things I have learned along the way from my own challenges and triumphs have prompted me to change careers at 40. I have dedicated this chapter of my life to helping others navigate those potholes that tripped me up in my own fitness journey.
Mommas, hear me: I want you to know that I come from a place of commiseration, deep empathy, and ENCOURAGEMENT. Just because issues are common, does NOT mean they are normal. Or okay. Or permanent.
Let me help you find the way back to yourself. Let’s get you stronger, happier, and back to doing the things you love best. Show your babies, and yourself, what’s possible.
